SUMMARY:Pollinator Garden Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Our Pollinator Garden is ready for a new season! 🌸 🐝 After one of our beautiful live oak trees on the Anna T. Jeanes property came down in a wind storm last year\, we decided to honor its legacy by creating a pollinator garden around it. We brought in rich soil and compost\, and thanks to a mighty group of volunteers\, we planted more than thirty native flowers. The garden flourished in the hot summer months\, serving as a vibrant sanctuary for bees\, ladybugs\, butterflies\, and hummingbirds. \nThis year\, board member Ann Lemis oversaw the replenishment of the garden with local\, indigenous pollinator plants. As the flowers return\, so do the weeds! We are putting together a monthly “weeding team” to keep this special space thriving. We would love your help. \nFirst Gathering: Saturday\, June 13 | 8:00 a.m. (to beat the heat!)\nWhere: Anna T. Jeanes School property\n6925 Twin Beech Road\, Fairhope\, AL\nWhat to wear/bring: sunscreen\, sun protection\, and gloves\nTo sign up: Email us at info@hopecommunityal.org or just show up!

Her work is centered around a simple goal: helping people reconnect with the natural world\, from young children exploring the woods for the first time to adults learning how to engage with the land in a more meaningful way. \nShe leads local foraging walks and teaches others how to identify and use the wild foods that grow right here in our area through her programs Alabama Foraging Society. Through this work\, Maria brings together outdoor education\, conservation\, and everyday life\, encouraging a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that surround us. \nHer conservation project\, Gulf Coast Roots\, focuses on citizen science and local environmental efforts\, including oyster restoration and habitat awareness along the Gulf Coast. \nIn this hands-on FoodRx class\, Maria will guide us in identifying and harvesting Oyster Mushrooms—a native Southeast delicacy found right here on our local hardwoods. Afterward\, we’ll gather for a plant-forward feast celebrating the flavors of the forest\, with vegan options for every single course! \nFoodRX Dinner Menu: \n\nLion’s Mane “Crab” Cakes – Golden\, pan-seared patties showcasing the remarkable seafood-like texture of local Lion’s Mane mushrooms\, seasoned with classic coastal herbs\nOyster Mushroom Alfredo – Sautéed local mushrooms in a traditional creamy Alfredo sauce over pasta (a vegan cashew-cream Alfredo will also be available)\nGreek Salad – Crisp romaine\, cucumbers\, and peppers with house-made dressing\nRoasted Cauliflower – Oven-roasted with simple\, savory seasoning\nGrilled Peaches – Caramelized peaches with candied pecans and whipped coconut cream\n\n\nDate: June 14\, 2026Time: 2:00pm – 4:00pmLocation: USA Mapp Family Medical Office Building\, Fairhope3rd Floor Teaching Kitchen\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]\nAbout FoodRx: Our “FoodRx Healthy Cooking Class” brings 20 dinner guests together to enjoy a hands-on\, healthy cooking workshop with nutritional insights and health statistics from local physicians\, nurses\, dietitians and a professional chef. SUMMARY:Community Compost Workday
DESCRIPTION:Things are moving along at the Compost Hub this summer! In the last few weeks\, we installed some pallet fencing\, started two new windrows\, and put up some signage. You will see a sign that says FEED HERE in the windrow that is accepting food scraps and dry materials. The other windrow has a sign that says DON’T FEED – I’m Cookin’. That row has scraps that were added earlier this year and have already broken down into rich compost for Hope Community gardens.\n\nPlans for public food scrap donations are in the works! Stay tuned for more info on how you can donate your food scraps to the Compost Hub!\n\nIn June\, we also set up the Can o’ Worms with a handful of worms that will soon grow to over 1\,000 composting worms eating  5 pounds of food scraps each week. Worms are picky eaters\, so we are requesting that no one feed the worms at this time. Once the worms have gotten used to their new home\, we will welcome everyone to come have a look and bring some treats for them. Worm castings contain nutrients custom made for plants and will make an excellent addition to Hope Community garden beds!\n\nCompost Hub needs in July & August:\n– Transporting 20-30 more pallets from the City of Fairhope to Hope Community campus\n– Cardboard (large boxes preferred) to use as weed screen\n– Help finishing the pallet fence and continued dismantling of the large pile of debris currently in the middle of the Compost Hub\n\nNext workdays: \nFriday\, July 10 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.\nFriday\, August 14 from 3-4:00 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease reach out to Sarah Bogdanovich (727-421-7321 or smbogdanovich@gmail.com) if you want to help!

SUMMARY:Community Composting Workday
DESCRIPTION:Things are moving along at the Compost Hub this summer! In the last few weeks\, we installed some pallet fencing\, started two new windrows\, and put up some signage. You will see a sign that says FEED HERE in the windrow that is accepting food scraps and dry materials. The other windrow has a sign that says DON’T FEED – I’m Cookin’. That row has scraps that were added earlier this year and have already broken down into rich compost for Hope Community gardens. \nPlans for public food scrap donations are in the works! Stay tuned for more info on how you can donate your food scraps to the Compost Hub! \nIn June\, we also set up the Can o’ Worms with a handful of worms that will soon grow to over 1\,000 composting worms eating 5 pounds of food scraps each week. Worms are picky eaters\, so we are requesting that no one feed the worms at this time. Once the worms have gotten used to their new home\, we will welcome everyone to come have a look and bring some treats for them. Worm castings contain nutrients custom made for plants and will make an excellent addition to Hope Community garden beds! \nCompost Hub needs in July & August:\n– Transporting 20-30 more pallets from the City of Fairhope to Hope Community campus\n– Cardboard (large boxes preferred) to use as weed screen\n– Help finishing the pallet fence and continued dismantling of the large pile of debris currently in the middle of the Compost Hub \nNext workdays:\nFriday\, July 10 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.\nFriday\, August 14 from 3-4:00 p.m. \nPlease reach out to Sarah Bogdanovich (727-421-7321 or smbogdanovich@gmail.com) or sent us a message if you want to help!

FoodRx events are meant to share the positive impact culinary medicine and evidence-based nutrition have on health and disease. After a brief presentation\, class participants divide into groups\, each preparing a portion of dinner before enjoying the communal meal together around the dinner table. \nClick here to learn more about FoodRX.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
