SUMMARY:Pollinator Garden Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Our Pollinator Garden is ready for a new season! 🌸 🐝 After one of our beautiful live oak trees on the Anna T. Jeanes property came down in a wind storm last year\, we decided to honor its legacy by creating a pollinator garden around it. We brought in rich soil and compost\, and thanks to a mighty group of volunteers\, we planted more than thirty native flowers. The garden flourished in the hot summer months\, serving as a vibrant sanctuary for bees\, ladybugs\, butterflies\, and hummingbirds. \nThis year\, board member Ann Lemis oversaw the replenishment of the garden with local\, indigenous pollinator plants. As the flowers return\, so do the weeds! We are putting together a monthly “weeding team” to keep this special space thriving. We would love your help. \nFirst Gathering: Saturday\, June 13 | 8:00 a.m. (to beat the heat!)\nWhere: Anna T. Jeanes School property\n6925 Twin Beech Road\, Fairhope\, AL\nWhat to wear/bring: sunscreen\, sun protection\, and gloves\nTo sign up: Email us at info@hopecommunityal.org or just show up!

Her work is centered around a simple goal: helping people reconnect with the natural world\, from young children exploring the woods for the first time to adults learning how to engage with the land in a more meaningful way. \nShe leads local foraging walks and teaches others how to identify and use the wild foods that grow right here in our area through her programs Alabama Foraging Society. Through this work\, Maria brings together outdoor education\, conservation\, and everyday life\, encouraging a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that surround us. \nHer conservation project\, Gulf Coast Roots\, focuses on citizen science and local environmental efforts\, including oyster restoration and habitat awareness along the Gulf Coast. \nIn this hands-on FoodRx class\, Maria will guide us in identifying and harvesting Oyster Mushrooms—a native Southeast delicacy found right here on our local hardwoods. Afterward\, we’ll gather for a plant-forward feast celebrating the flavors of the forest\, with vegan options for every single course! \nFoodRX Dinner Menu: \n\nLion’s Mane “Crab” Cakes – Golden\, pan-seared patties showcasing the remarkable seafood-like texture of local Lion’s Mane mushrooms\, seasoned with classic coastal herbs\nOyster Mushroom Alfredo – Sautéed local mushrooms in a traditional creamy Alfredo sauce over pasta (a vegan cashew-cream Alfredo will also be available)\nGreek Salad – Crisp romaine\, cucumbers\, and peppers with house-made dressing\nRoasted Cauliflower – Oven-roasted with simple\, savory seasoning\nGrilled Peaches – Caramelized peaches with candied pecans and whipped coconut cream\n\n\nDate: June 14\, 2026Time: 2:00pm – 4:00pmLocation: USA Mapp Family Medical Office Building\, Fairhope3rd Floor Teaching Kitchen\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]\nAbout FoodRx: Our “FoodRx Healthy Cooking Class” brings 20 dinner guests together to enjoy a hands-on\, healthy cooking workshop with nutritional insights and health statistics from local physicians\, nurses\, dietitians and a professional chef.
