Her work is centered around a simple goal: helping people reconnect with the natural world\, from young children exploring the woods for the first time to adults learning how to engage with the land in a more meaningful way. \nShe leads local foraging walks and teaches others how to identify and use the wild foods that grow right here in our area through her programs Alabama Foraging Society. Through this work\, Maria brings together outdoor education\, conservation\, and everyday life\, encouraging a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that surround us. \nHer conservation project\, Gulf Coast Roots\, focuses on citizen science and local environmental efforts\, including oyster restoration and habitat awareness along the Gulf Coast. \nIn this hands-on FoodRx class\, Maria will guide us in identifying and harvesting Oyster Mushrooms—a native Southeast delicacy found right here on our local hardwoods.
