Set the stage for a vibrant new year with colorful foods and a fresh perspective at our December FoodRx event with special host Kristin Alpine of Wildflowers and Fresh Food. This healthy cooking class & dinner will be held on December 13th at 5:30 PM at USA Health’s Mapp Family Campus in Fairhope.
Kristin Alpine, RN, has been on a mission to bring joy back to the kitchen in a nurturing and nourishing way. Her plant-forward classes and events center around fresh colorful, whole foods from her garden or local farmers to ignite all of the senses in her delicious dishes. Food is meant to be savored and experienced, not to be eaten like products. And Kristin has the recipe for living that can benefit us all!
“During class, I love to talk about where I got the local produce, the healing properties of the beautiful foods we use and the life enhancing results of sharing food with one another or simply taking care of ourselves by cooking for one. The simple act of muddling herbs or zesting citrus literally lowers our parasympathetic nervous system so we can rest and digest as our bodies were designed to!” (from wildflowersandfreshfood.com)
Learn more about how bringing awareness to every part of preparing meals creates an atmosphere for optimal health. The principle of Rest and Digest reflects these practices well. Our often chronic fight or flight response can be minimized when we stay present enjoying the splendor of everything that comes with eating healthy.

“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” – Hippocrates
“When you start eating foods without labels, you no longer need to count calories.” – Amanda Kraft
“To change our eating habits, we must learn to eat mindfully, being more aware of chewing and tasting what we eat so that the brain can register the incoming nutrients.” – John M. Poothullil
ABOUT FOODRX:
FoodRx is an initiative from Hope Community and USA Health’s Integrative Health & Wellness department. Our mutual goal is to share knowledge on healthy cooking and the positive impact a plant-forward diet has on health and disease. Twenty dinner guests learn hands-on, plant-forward cooking strategies and methods from local culinary and integrative health experts focusing on the positive impact culinary medicine and evidence-based nutrition have on health and disease. The class breaks into small groups, each preparing a portion of the meal before enjoying the communal dinner together around the dinner table.
Our hope is that classes like these will provide the knowledge and tools for everyone to take control of their health with food, even those who may not have the means to access fresh, whole foods frequently or easily.
Registration is required as space is limited.
We are able to accommodate 20 participants at each event. A contribution of $50 is requested per person. Payment can be made online through the link below.
