On December 24, 2023, Hope Community’s board president and co-founder, Shawn Graham, was invited to speak with Kelly Finley as part of radio station 92Zew’s (92.1 FM) segment “The Community Round Table”.
Listen in as Shawn shares meaningful experiences and insightful information about Hope Community’s history, mission, and vision.
Excerpts from interview:
“Our mission is to create safe spaces for community members to feel comfortable, connected, and heard.”
Hope Community is for people of all shapes and sizes. We address and help “generational trauma”. Many issues plague us today with crime, social injustice, financial toxicity…the pain in our environment. We want to provide a safe space for people to feel comfortable in opening up and sharing. We want to provide a safe space for people to feel comfortable to open up and share and give you time to be heard – An atmosphere where we get rid of the barriers, and where people know they can be heard. Hope Community is a judgment-free community group where we can love each other and focus on how we can get better on a local level.
Kelly: How did you come up with the name “Hope Community”?
Shawn: Hope is that sort of thing that we all need.
Life is a struggle. People legitimately wonder if they should even try to be hopeful. We want to help people re-think what community is today. We’ve lost a lot of what community used to mean because of information technology.
“Different generations have different traumas. It’s about understanding each other so we can do better and be better.” -Kelly Finley
