April 2026 Public Meeting

April 28 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
champ napier presentation

Join Hope Community on Tuesday, April 28th, for a powerful evening with author and advocate, Chris “Champ” Napier. Champ’s novel, Poverty and Prison, is a raw and deeply personal look at poverty, trauma, and incarceration. After being formerly incarcerated by the state of Alabama, Champ made history by becoming the first person in the state to receive a pardon for a murder conviction. Today, he serves as a client advocate for the Mobile County Public Defender’s Office, bringing firsthand experience to his work within the system he once had to navigate.

Where: 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, AL

When: Tuesday, April 28th at 5:30 p.m.

Books: Champ will have copies of his books, Poverty and Prison and Servant of the People, available for purchase before and after the meeting.

How You Can Help: The Hygiene Drive

At Hope Community, we believe that basic hygiene is a human right. In Alabama’s for-profit prison system, many incarcerated individuals are denied these essentials. We are actively working to change this situation for those in the Mobile Jail.

We invite you to bring donations of personal hygiene items to the meeting. (Please see the list in the graphic below or visit hopecommunityal.org/prison-outreach for specific approved items.)

Come hear a story of true transformation and learn how we can work together to bring dignity, hope, and essential care to our neighbors in prison.
