Hope Community is delighted to announce our 2nd Annual “Our Roots Run Deep” 5K Race, which will be held in the historic Fairhope South neighborhood on Saturday, January 10, 2026, beginning at 8 a.m. The race will start and finish at the beautiful, historic Anna T. Jeanes School property, located on the corner of Twin Beech Road and South Section Street.

A Race for a Cause

This event supports Hope Community’s mission to “nurture unity and relationships through food, healing, and education.” Hope Community is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich African American history of Baldwin County while enriching the lives of its residents through healthy food, farming education, meaningful experiences in nature, and community events that build relationships among diverse groups of people.

Why Your Participation Matters

Proceeds from the “Our Roots Run Deep” 5K are essential in funding the development and maintenance of a teaching farm, nature trails, gardens, a teaching kitchen and a community center at the Anna T. Jeanes School property.

Mayor Sherry Sullivan of the City of Fairhope will start off the race promptly at 8:00 am. Afterward, participants and community members are invited to stay for the after-party under the oaks, which will include an awards ceremony led by long-time Hope Community supporter, Cecil Christenberry, music by Fairhope South’s energetic deejay, Demetrius Martin (DJ Meat), and wonderful offerings from local makers and growers at the Mobile Bay Maker’s Market.

Awards will be given for the top overall male and female finishers in the 5K as well as the top 3 male and female finishers in each of the following age groups:
9 & under
10-14
15 – 19
20-29
30-39
40-49
50-59
60-69
70 & over

The Route

Parking will be available on the Anna T. Jeanes School property.

The route travels east on Twin Beech from the school for .8 of a mile before turning north onto South Ingleside Ave. The race continues on Ingleside Ave. for another .8 of a mile until turning left onto Middle Street. After heading west for .3 of a mile, registrants will turn left onto Young Street, passing by the 101 year old historic Lebanon Chapel AME Church at 401 Young Street. Also at Middle and Young Streets, racers will pass by our secondary Hope Community property. The route then stays south on Young Street for .8 of a mile back until reaching Twin Beech Rd again. Racers will then be directed to turn right and head west on Twin Beech back towards South Section Street to the Anna T. Jeanes property.

Registration Rates & Deadlines

Participants are encouraged to sign up early to secure the best rate and guarantee a custom race t-shirt. Race packets will be available to pick up the day before and the morning of the race.

Early Bird Rate: $25 per person until December 10, 2025. All registrants who sign up by this date are guaranteed to receive a custom race t-shirt.

Standard Rate: $30 per person from December 11, 2025, to January 9, 2026 (online registration closes on Friday, January 9th at 6 AM)

Day-of Registration: $35 (must register on-site; online payments accepted)
