FoodRX Cooking Class and Dinner – March 2025

Reserve your spot for our next FoodRx class and dinner on Sunday, March 9th at 2 PM!
Whether you’re a foodophile or simply looking for a unique culinary experience, Kristin Alpine of Wildflowers & Fresh Food has crafted an irresistible menu for all to enjoy! In this hands-on class, we’ll prepare shakshuka, a wholesome vegetarian Middle Eastern one-skillet dish of eggs gently simmered in a spiced tomato sauce with peppers, garlic, and aromatic spices. For a delicious vegan twist, we’ll make a protein-rich version featuring chickpeas.
No shakshuka experience is complete without warm, freshly baked naan bread—perfect for scooping up every flavorful bite. We’ll also prepare a vibrant spring pea and feta mezza, a delightful complement to our meal. To round out our meal, we will indulge in a colorful Spanish fruit salad bursting with papaya, pineapple, zesty lemon, and a drizzle of local honey.
Alpine will be our guest chef for the afternoon at USA Health’s Mapp Family Campus teaching kitchen in Fairhope. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, you will experience a garden-to-table feast with delicious, plant-forward dishes. Alpine is a registered nurse with a passion for cooking and is committed to bringing joy back to the kitchen. Her classes focus on fresh whole foods sourced from her garden and local farmers’ markets.

About FoodRx: Our “FoodRx Healthy Cooking Class” brings 20 dinner guests together to enjoy a hands-on, healthy cooking workshop with nutritional insights and health statistics from local physicians, nurses, dietitians and a professional chef. FoodRx events are meant to share the positive impact culinary medicine and evidence-based nutrition have on health and disease. After a brief presentation, class participants divide into groups, each preparing a portion of dinner before enjoying the communal meal together around the dinner table.
